PREFACE

Institute of Engineering, Thapathali Campus located at the  centre of  Kathmandu, Maitighar, is  well-known historical place for quality education in the field of science and technology and has been offering a variety of diploma and bachelors in engineering courses. It  also offers bachelors in Mechanical Engineering, a four-year course, and during the seventh semester of this course students are requested to visit an organization/industry for one month as an industrial attachment aiming to familiarize the students  with real working environment in an industry in both the management and the technical aspects as a mechanical engineer.

As per fulfillment of this course we, a four-member group, visited Heavy Equipment Division situated at Minbhawan, Kathmandu. And, this article aims to put forth briefly the present condition of the organization both in managerial and technical aspects as well as our observations and activities during the period of one month.

We are also extremely thankful to the department of automobile and mechanical engineering, Thapathali Campus for making suggestions on selecting a historical organization like Heavy Equipment Division for the industrial attachment among tens of organizations across the city.

ABSTRACT

We are living a highly industrialized era now and this has been possible only due to the revolutionary changes in the science and technologies. Science and technology is itself a lame when the importance of the practical knowledge are not considered. That’s why both the theoretical and practical knowledge should go side by side for optimum benefits of human beings. The complete understanding of the technology comes only with the application of theoretical knowledge in real life problems at intended time frame.

Our one-month industrial attachment focused on the same to involve the students in activities where they can apply the theoretical knowledge gained so far to face the real problems. Besides, it helped us to feel the importance of team work and in addition, it helped to familiarize with problems faced by a newly appointed employee as a mechanical engineer. This brief report tries to bring out what we learnt about the organization restricting ourselves in the course boundaries.
